A serious accident in Aligarh has raised fresh concerns about worker safety at construction sites. A labourer died after getting trapped under debris while repairing a water pipeline beneath a road.
The death was confirmed and the state govt also announced Rs 7 lakh compensation.
The incident, captured on CCTV and widely shared on social media, shows the risky conditions at the site. His coworkers were seen rushing to save him, highlighting the lack of proper safety measures during such hazardous work.
What happened at the site
The injured worker has been identified as Mahendra Singh. He was carrying out pipeline repair work when suddenly a pile of debris collapsed on him, trapping him underneath. CCTV footage shows his coworkers panicking and trying to remove the rubble with their hands. They can also be heard shouting at the excavator operator to act quickly and help in the rescue effort.
Rushed to hospital in critical condition
After a tense rescue, Mahendra Singh was pulled out from the debris and immediately taken to a nearby hospital.
Family alleges negligence
The victim's family has blamed authorities for negligence, claiming that workers are forced to operate in unsafe environments without proper safety gear. They said labourers often raise concerns about working conditions, but their complaints are rarely addressed. The family has demanded strict action against those responsible.
