A cloudburst in south Kashmir's Shopian district and another in Hardass area of Kargil on Sunday triggered flash floods that inundated residential areas, damaged infrastructure and disrupted normal life in the affected localities.
In Shopian, floodwaters entered houses in the Badrhama area after the nearby stream swelled sharply, while in Kargil, the sudden rush of water swept through Hardass, leaving behind mud, boulders and debris.
According to initial reports, flash floods in Shopian caused panic among residents as water entered habitations and forced people to deal with rising water levels in the locality. Similar scenes were reported from Hardass and Tumail in Kargil, where a river, irrigation channels were hit.
There were no immediate reports of any major damage due to these cloudbursts, but the incidents added to the hardship of people already dealing with weather-related disruption in the Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh.
