The southwest monsoon is rapidly advancing towards northern parts of India, bringing the possibility of widespread rainfall over the next few days.
According to the latest update, the monsoon reached large parts of northern and western India on July 1, including most areas of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.
The monsoon has also covered several parts of Haryana and Punjab, while conditions remain highly favourable for further advancement in the coming days.
Delhi, UP, Haryana and Punjab Likely to Receive Rain Soon
Meteorologists say the southwest monsoon is expected to cover more parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab and Rajasthan within the next two days.
As the monsoon progresses further north, rainfall activity across North India is expected to intensify.
Residents in Delhi-NCR and surrounding regions may witness a fresh spell of rain along with cloudy skies and cooler temperatures.
Multiple Weather Systems Active Across India
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said several weather systems are currently active simultaneously, increasing rainfall activity across the country.
A seasonal trough is extending from Punjab to the north Bay of Bengal, while a cyclonic circulation is active over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of southern Bangladesh.
Due to its influence, a fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal around July 3, which could further enhance rainfall over eastern and central India.
Cyclonic Circulation Over Bihar and Active Offshore Troughs
Another cyclonic circulation is currently present over eastern Bihar.
Meanwhile, an offshore trough continues to remain active from Maharashtra to the north Kerala coast. Another trough extends from Madhya Pradesh to the east-central Arabian Sea.
These weather systems are expected to support widespread rainfall activity across several parts of India during the coming days.
Heavy Rain Likely in Konkan, Goa, Kerala and Telangana Today
According to weather agency Skymet, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected on July 2 in:
- Konkan and Goa
- Coastal Karnataka
- Kerala
- Parts of Interior Karnataka
- Southern Madhya Pradesh
- Telangana
- Chhattisgarh
Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places in:
- Telangana
- Lakshadweep
- Andaman and Nicobar Islands
- Northeast India
- Sikkim
Light to Moderate Rain Expected in Delhi, UP and Bihar
The weather department has forecast light to moderate rainfall in several northern and eastern states, including:
- Delhi
- Uttar Pradesh
- Punjab
- Haryana
- Bihar
- Jharkhand
- Odisha
- Eastern Rajasthan
- Gujarat
- Western Himalayan states
Meanwhile, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Tamil Nadu are also likely to receive light rainfall.
Monsoon to Strengthen Across North India
With favourable conditions continuing, the southwest monsoon is expected to advance further over North India during the next few days.
This is likely to bring widespread rainfall and provide relief from heat and humid conditions in several states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab.
