Millions of passengers travelling from Delhi's Anand Vihar Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) may soon get airport-style facilities. Authorities are planning to build an air-conditioned lounge and modern rest rooms at the busy bus terminal to improve passenger comfort.

The government has already issued a tender for the project. If everything proceeds according to schedule, construction work is expected to begin next month.

Modern rest rooms to be built for passengers

The project will be carried out by the Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC). According to officials, around Rs 1.11 crore will be spent on building the rest rooms.

The facility will include small private rooms equipped with modern amenities, allowing passengers to rest if their bus is delayed or if they reach the bus terminal late at night. The aim is to provide a comfortable and safe space for travellers waiting for long hours.

Air-conditioned waiting lounge in the plan

Apart from the rest rooms, an air-conditioned lounge will also be developed at the bus terminal. This lounge will allow passengers to sit comfortably while waiting for their buses.

Officials said the tender process for the AC lounge has already been completed and the selection of the construction company is in its final stage. The lounge is expected to cost around Rs 54 lakh to build.

The lounge will also house restaurants and food outlets, offering passengers refreshments and dining options while they wait. Additionally, authorities have proposed the construction of pink toilets specifically for women passengers at the bus terminal.

Around 2 lakh passengers use the hub daily

Anand Vihar is one of the busiest transport hubs in Delhi. The area includes the ISBT bus terminal, a railway station, two metro stations and a Namo Bharat train station, making it a major connectivity point.

From here, buses operate to several cities across Uttarakhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, along with local routes run by DTC buses.

With nearly two lakh passengers using the terminal every day, the government has decided to upgrade the infrastructure and provide better facilities to handle the growing number of travellers.
