News24 Online 3 days ago

The proposed Delhi-Varanasi High-Speed Rail corridor has moved a step forward, with officials discussing possible locations for a bullet train station in Prayagraj.

A meeting chaired by District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma was held on June 17 to finalise the alignment of the project and identify the most suitable site for the station.

Representatives from the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) gave a detailed presentation on the Delhi-Varanasi bullet train project via Prayagraj and discussed various aspects related to the route and station planning.

Four locations proposed for Prayagraj bullet train station

During the meeting, officials suggested four possible locations for the station, keeping in mind the city's geography, road network, airport connectivity, and overall utility.

The proposed locations are:

  • Neebi Khurd
  • Shantipuram
  • Prayag Station area
  • Parade Ground or Airport area

Authorities are now studying which location can provide better connectivity to residents and visitors.

Focus on connectivity and Maha Kumbh pilgrims

Officials also discussed how the station could benefit devotees visiting Prayagraj during Maha Kumbh and Magh Mela. The aim is to ensure that pilgrims and tourists can easily access the high-speed rail network.

The administration is looking at factors such as metro connectivity, major roads, and existing transport infrastructure while deciding the final station location.

Officials to study infrastructure plans

District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma directed officials to examine the updated development plan for Prayagraj. He asked departments to study the Inner Ring Road, Outer Ring Road, bridge projects, National Highways Authority of India infrastructure, and railway networks before finalising the alignment.

Detailed reports from various departments will be reviewed before taking a final decision on the station site and route.

Project expected to boost development

According to the district administration, the Delhi-Varanasi bullet train project is expected to improve transportation facilities and boost economic activity in the region. It is also likely to make travel easier for pilgrims and tourists visiting Prayagraj.

Several senior officials, including PDA Vice-Chairman Rishi Raj, Municipal Commissioner Sheelam Sai Teja, Chief Development Officer Harshika Singh and representatives of NHSRCL, attended the meeting.
