Delhi-NCR Transport Strike LiveUpdates: Taxi, auto and truck drivers in Delhi-NCR have launched a three-day strike from May 21 to May 23 over rising fuel costs and an increase in the Environment Compensation Cess on commercial vehicles.

The drivers' unions are also demanding a revision in fares, stating that taxi and auto rates have remained unchanged for years despite continuous increases in CNG and other operational expenses.

Why the strike was called

The strike has been initiated in protest against rising fuel prices and the hike in Environment Compensation Cess imposed on commercial vehicles. Driver unions say the increased costs have made operations financially difficult and are demanding fare revisions to offset growing expenses.

What is open and what is closed

During the strike, most taxis and many auto-rickshaws are off the roads, especially around major hubs such as railway stations and airports. However, app-based cab services like Uber and Ola continue to operate, although commuters are facing longer waiting times and higher fares. Truck participation has also disrupted the movement of essential goods in parts of Delhi-NCR.

Duration of the strike

The strike has been announced for a period of three days, from May 21 to May 23. At present, there is no official indication from unions regarding an early end or extension of the protest and talks with authorities have not led to a resolution.
