A Surat-based RTI activist has demanded an inquiry into the finances of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke's father. Amit Tiwari questioned how Bhagwanrao Dipke, a retired Maharashtra govt employee, funded his son's education abroad.
The activist said on Saturday that he has also written to the Election Commission of India (ECI) and tax authorities seeking an investigation into the Rs 1 crore legal defence fund announced by Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal for CJP protesters facing legal action.
Activist seeks probe into Dipke's father's finances
According to reports, Tiwari sought an inquiry into Dipke's father's finances, citing his status as a retired government employee and how he was able to send his son abroad for higher education. Separately, the activist questioned CJP's status and whether it could receive funds while operating under the name of a political party.
'CJP is an unregistered entity but…'
'The Cockroach Janta Party is an unregistered entity but is operating as a political party. If Rs 1 crore has been pledged to it as a legal defence fund, then the EC should verify whether the CJP is registered with it under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951,' Tiwari said.
GST question on Kapil Sibal's Rs 1 crore fund
'If not registered, then its operation under the name of a political party and collection/receipt of funds may require examination,' Tiwari added. Meanwhile, he approached the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs seeking an investigation into whether GST would apply to senior advocate Kapil Sibal's proposed contribution to the legal defence fund.
Sibal had earlier announced a Rs 1 crore contribution to a fund set up by the Cockroach Janata Party to offer legal assistance to protesters booked by Delhi Police during the agitation over the NEET paper leak row.
