Former Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman and cricket administrator Lalit Modi has claimed that his association with Prime Minister Narendra Modi was centered entirely on cricket development and had no political dimension.

Speaking in an interview in London, Lalit Modi described the Prime Minister as a passionate supporter of the sport who took a keen interest in strengthening cricket infrastructure in Gujarat, particularly in Ahmedabad.

Explaining the nature of their relationship, Lalit Modi said he was "close" to Narendra Modi, but only in the context of cricket. According to him, most of their discussions revolved around the development of cricket facilities and infrastructure in Ahmedabad. He said the Prime Minister consistently showed enthusiasm for expanding the sport and improving sporting facilities during his tenure in Gujarat.

The remarks come amid renewed public attention on Lalit Modi following his recent comments about the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, currently the world's largest cricket stadium by seating capacity.
