A U.S. official has confirmed that an American fighter jet was shot down over Iran. The official also said that efforts are currently underway to locate the crew of the aircraft.
However, there was no confirmation on whether the jet was an F-35 or an F-15E. Iran, on the other hand, has claimed that it brought down both an F-35 and an F-15E.
Rising Tensions After Jet Downing
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, did not share further details. The Pentagon and U.S. Central Command have also not responded to requests for comment.
The possibility that U.S. pilots may still be alive and hiding inside Iran has significantly increased tensions in the ongoing conflict. Iranian authorities have urged civilians to watch for any survivors.
The governor of Iran's Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province reportedly said that anyone who captures or kills the crew would be specially rewarded, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.
