Jiah Khan Case: Mumbai court rejects CBI petition for further probe against Sooraj Pancholi
New Delhi: Jiah Khan had died on June 3, 2013, by suicide. Her then-boyfriend, Sooraj Pancholi, was charged with abetment of suicide. She had also written a suicide note signaling her relationship with Sooraj has been damaging. Now, a special CBI court on Thursday rejected the plea filed by the central agency for further investigation in the Jiah Khan suicide abetment case against actor Suraj Pancholi.
CBI filed a plea in December 2019, seeking permission to send the dupatta (purportedly used by Jiah Khan to end her life) to Chandigarh and seized cell phones to the Forensic Unit, FBI in the USA to retrieve deleted messages exchanged between Jiah Khan and Sooraj Pancholi through Blackberry messenger. Pancholi's lawyer Prashant Patil opposed the plea stating that the Bombay high court had rejected a similar plea by Khan's mother Rabia Khan in 2017.
Pancholi was booked for abetment of suicide of Khan who died by suicide at her Juhu apartment on June 3, 2013. He was arrested on June 10, 2013, in the case. The trial of the case begin in March 2019. Rabia has been claiming that her daughter had not killed herself and the investigating agency should probe if she was murdered.
Sooraj made his Bollywood debut opposite Athiya Shetty in the 2015 film 'Hero.' He was seen with Isabelle Kaif in 'Time To Dance' earlier this year. On the other hand, Jiah had predominantly worked in South Indian films and was also seen in Bollywood films including Ghajini, Nishabd, and Housefull.
