Share Market LIVE Updates: After a losing streak on Tuesday, the share markets opened on a positive note today. The BSE's 30-share index, Sensex, opened 406 points higher at around 77,615.95, while the Nifty also started in the green, up by 186 points.

Positive cues from US markets, which closed at record highs in the previous session, supported the recovery in Indian equities. The upbeat trend had already been indicated by early movement in GIFT Nifty on Wednesday morning.

US Markets Today

US equities surged to fresh record highs on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, supported by falling oil prices and robust corporate earnings. The S&P 500 advanced 0.8% to close at an all-time high of 7,259.22, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 1% to a record 25,326.13. The Dow Jones Industrial Average also posted strong gains, climbing about 356 points, or 0.7%, to finish at 49,298.25. Investor sentiment improved further as Brent crude prices declined 4% to USD 109.87.

GIFT Nifty Today

GIFT Nifty is indicating a positive start for the Indian equity markets after weakness in the previous session. Trading on the NSE International Exchange (NSE IX) in GIFT City, the index gained around 0.43% to 0.45% in early trade, reaching near 24,309.00. This rise points to a gap-up opening for the Nifty 50, with expectations of a gain of more than 200 points when the domestic markets open.

Crude Oil Prices Today

Brent crude fell by about 1.69% to around USD 108 per barrel, while WTI dropped closer to USD 100 per barrel. Prices eased after U.S. President Donald Trump said there was 'great progress' toward a peace deal with Iran and announced a temporary pause on "Project Freedom," a plan to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
