Nearly 2,400 people are still missing, including at least 320 foreign nationals. More than 4,400 people have been rescued or evacuated so far, as authorities race to reach remote settlements cut off after roads and bridges were destroyed by the floods.

What is the situation in Nepal?

Rescue operations have been facing fresh challenges due to renewed rainfall and rising water levels in the Bhotekoshi River basin. Authorities are concerned that the worsening weather and water levels could trigger further flooding in already affected areas.

The scale of the disaster has also made it difficult for rescue teams to reach several remote locations. Many communities remain isolated because key roads and bridges were washed away or damaged in the floods.

How many foreign nationals are missing?

Officials said at least 261 foreign tourists who had gone 'out of contact' have been rescued or evacuated. They included 167 Indians, 40 Chinese, eight Ukrainians, four each from Germany and Malta, and three from the United States.

Others were from countries including Turkiye, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Oman, Belgium and Bulgaria.

Despite the rescue of several foreign nationals, hundreds remain unaccounted for. The Ministry of External Affairs said at least 287 Indians and 128 people of Indian origin remain missing in Nepal.

What is India doing to help Nepal?

India has stepped up its assistance to Nepal following the disaster. A tunnel rescue team from India reached Nepal on Saturday to support the ongoing search and rescue operations.

India has also sent three aircraft carrying relief materials to Nepal since the flash floods hit the Bhote Kosi River region on August 26.
