Commuters travelling between Noida and Greater Noida could soon get major relief from daily traffic jams. Noida Authority has planned a 29-km, four-lane expressway to reduce the growing pressure on the existing Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and provide motorists with a new alternative route.
The project is expected to cost around Rs 500 crore and could directly benefit more than 5 lakh residents across 25 sectors, 20 villages and over 75 housing societies.
New expressway to pass between Yamuna and Harnandi rivers
The proposed road will be developed through the Doab region between the Yamuna and Harnandi rivers. Officials believe the location will allow the Noida Authority to build the corridor with limited land acquisition.
Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department already owns a 22 to 28-metre-wide land strip in the area. Using the available government land could help speed up construction and avoid lengthy land acquisition disputes.
Existing expressway faces massive traffic pressure
The existing Noida-Greater Noida Expressway reportedly handles around 10 lakh vehicles every day. Traffic congestion during peak hours has become a major concern as residential and commercial development continues across Greater Noida.
The new corridor is being planned as an alternative route to divert a significant number of vehicles from the main expressway.
Sector 150, Sports City residents to get big relief
Under the project, around 17 km along the Harnandi Doab will be developed as a four-lane road. The corridor will eventually reach Sector 150 and connect with a 75-metre-wide road at Kondli Bangar.
An additional 11.2-km stretch along the Yamuna embankment is also being repaired at a cost of around Rs 34 crore.
Residents of Sector 150, Sports City, Jaypee Wish Town and nearby Greater Noida areas are expected to be among the biggest beneficiaries of the project.
