Riteish Deshmukh's much-awaited historical drama, which he has directed, headlined and co-written, released in cinemas on May 1. The film has registered a historic opening at the domestic box office, making a huge mark with Rs 11 crore haul on day 1. Apart from Riteish Deshmukh, the film also stars Abhishek Bachchan, Bhagyashree, Genelia Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, and Vidya Balan, among others, in key roles.
How Raja Shivaji registered a historic start at the box office?
According to reports by Sacnilk, the film has grossed an impressive Rs 8 crore net on Friday from Marathi version alone. This makes it one of the highest-grossing opening films in the Marathi industry. The record-breaking start comes after the film witnessed a phenomenal advance booking, closing its advance sales at Rs 5.14 crore gross, of which an estimated Rs 4.25 crore gross (Rs 3.60 crore net) was earned from the original Marathi versions alone. With this, the film has easily surpassed the long-standing opening day records of Sairat and Timepass 2, both of which had grossed an estimated Rs 3.60 net on their day 1.
Raja Shivaji box office collection day 1: How much the film earned on Day 1?
While Raja Shivaji's Marathi version grossed an estimated Rs 8 crore, the addition of Rs 3.35 crore from Hindi versions boost its overall domestic earnings to Rs 11.35 crore. With this, Raja Shivaji has surpassed Manikarnika's (2019) opening-day figures of Rs 8.75 crore.

Well, current status shows that Dhurandhar 2 is keeping slow pace at the box office, while Ritesh Deshmukh's Raja Shivaji has taken the lead, with its impressive performance in both Marathi and Hindi versions. On Day 44, Dhurandhar 2 raked in Rs 1.05 crore, indicating 8.7 per cent drop from its day 43 earnings (Rs 1.15 crore). This push the net collection of Ranveer Singh starrer in India to Rs 1136.14 crore so far, while the gross stands at Rs 1359.83 crore. The international market registered Rs 0.25 crore earnings, recording the gross worldwide collection of Rs 1785.23 crore.
Backed by Genelia D'Souza and Jyoti Deshpande, Riteish Deshmukh directorial is reportedly the most expensive Marathi film ever made at Rs 100 crore.
