Delhi's Shri Ramlila Mahasangh has requested a preview screening of Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana so as to avoid alleged inaccurate depictions of the mythological film. Arjun Kumar, President of Shri Ramlila Mahasangh, has also written a formal letter to the makers of the film, demanding that it be screened for a delegation of the Mahasangh before it receives a worldwide release.
What warning did Delhi's Ramlila Mahasangh issue to Ramayana makers?
In a letter addressed to Nitesh Tiwari and the film's production company, Arjun Kumar recalled the controversy surrounding Prabhas' Adipurush, which faced intense scrutiny from the Hindu community.
Arjun Kumar's press note read, 'According to information received by the Mahasangh, Ramayana may also contain certain scenes that could hurt the sentiments of Hindus living in India and abroad. In light of this, the organisation has requested a special preview screening to ensure that any potentially objectionable scenes or dialogues are identified and removed before release.'
The President of Shri Ramlila Mahasangh also issued a warning to the makers of Ramayana, saying that if they fail to comply with the request, protests and demonstrations will be carried out outside theatres in Delhi and other states.
When will Ramayana release in theatres?
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana will be made in two parts, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman; the film also stars Sunny Deol as Hanuman. Ramayana: Part 1 will release in theatres during Diwali 2026, and Ramayana: Part 2 is scheduled to be released during Diwali 2027.
