Heatwave alert for Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for a heatwave in Delhi on Saturday, 25 April.

Officials said heatwave conditions are likely in some parts of the city, with strong surface winds of 15-25 km/h and gusts up to 35 km/h during the day. The IMD said similar conditions are expected in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh today. The heatwave is also likely to continue over Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh for the next two days.

Relief is expected from Sunday, 26 April, as rain is likely to lower temperatures.

When will rain reach Delhi?

The IMD forecast says skies will turn cloudy by Monday, with very light rain or drizzle possible on Tuesday. Weather expert Mahesh Palawat said light rain may begin from Monday due to a cyclonic circulation.

Delhi's maximum temperature is expected to reach 42-44 degree Celsius on Saturday before gradually dropping in the coming days.

The IMD has forecast:

  • Thunderstorms and gusty winds (30-40 km/h) in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh from 26 to 30 April
  • Rain in Uttar Pradesh from 28 to 30 April
  • Rain in Rajasthan from 27 to 29 April
  • Rain with winds up to 40-50 km/h in Chhattisgarh (26-28 April), Vidarbha (28 April), and Madhya Pradesh (27-28 April)

Mumbai Weather

In Mumbai, the weather will remain mostly clear on Saturday, according to the Regional Met Centre.

The city is likely to experience hot and humid conditions, with temperatures around 35 degree Celsius during the day and 24 degree Celsius at night. Parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathawada may see light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds of 30-50 km/h.

Bengaluru's weather

Bengaluru will continue to experience high temperatures on 25 April, with a maximum of about 37 degree Celsius-around 2-3 degree Celsius above normal,and a minimum near 23 degree Celsius. A yellow alert for thunderstorms and gusty winds has been issued for several districts across Karnataka, though Bengaluru itself is expected to stay dry on Saturday.

When will relief arrive?

Thunderstorms with lightning are expected from Tuesday onwards, bringing some relief. Light to moderate rain with winds of 40-50 km/h may occur in parts of the city between Tuesday and Thursday.
