Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has received a major legal relief after being acquitted in a cheque bounce case. The Alipore Court cleared Shami in INR 1 lakh cheque dishonour case which was filed by his ex-wife Hasin Jahan.

What was the case about?

The case first came to light in 2018 when Hasin Jahan claimed that Shami issued her INR 1 lakh cheque for household which later got bounced after it was deposited in the bank. Following this, she approached the court and initiated legal proceedings, filed multiple complaints against Shami.

"I knew the decision would be in our favor because I had done nothing wrong. I gave everything I had. Whether on the field or off the field, I always try to handle every situation to the best of my ability" speaking to media Shami spoke on court's verdict.

Another dispute still continues

Apart from this case, a separate legal dispute regarding the maintenance and alimony between the ex-couple. According to the directive of Calcutta High Court, Shami pays INR 1.5 lakh per month to Hasin Khaan and INR 2.5 lakh for their daughter's care which amounts to a total of INR 4 lakh per month. Hasin Jahan later moved the Supreme Court, arguing that the amount is insufficient to meet household expenses.
