The Uttar Pradesh Government has transferred IAS officer Nidhi Gupta Vats, who was serving as District Magistrate of Amroha. She has now been appointed as the new District Magistrate of Fatehpur.
In her place, IAS officer Nitin Gaud has been posted as the new DM of Amroha. Following this transfer, Nidhi Gupta Vats is once again in the spotlight for her career and achievements.
Who is Nidhi Gupta Vats?
Nidhi Gupta Vats is a 2015-batch IAS officer who secured All India Rank 3 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2014. Born on August 13, 1987, she was originally part of the Haryana cadre but was later transferred to Uttar Pradesh after her marriage in 2016.
She was born and brought up in Delhi and was a bright student from a young age. She completed her schooling from Oxford School in Vikas Puri and later pursued B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur.
Her father, Mohanlal Gupta, worked as a director in the Rural Development Ministry, and her mother is a homemaker. Her family supported her throughout her UPSC preparation.
Career and Postings
After clearing UPSC, she trained at LBSNAA Mussoorie in 2016. She started her career as Assistant Magistrate in Agra from May 2016 to September 2017. She then served as Joint Magistrate in Lucknow, followed by a role as Additional Housing Commissioner. Later, she worked as Chief Development Officer in Hardoi.
She also served as Special Secretary in the Excise Department in Lucknow. From July 2022 to September 2024, she was the Municipal Commissioner of Bareilly. After that, she took charge as DM of Amroha, where she served for about 1 year and 7 months before being transferred to Fatehpur.
Key Achievements
As Municipal Commissioner of Bareilly, she completed 64 Smart City projects within just 25 months, which received wide appreciation. The city's ranking in the Swachh Survekshan improved from 137 to 80 under her leadership. She focused strongly on cleanliness and civic discipline, personally inspecting public areas.
As DM of Amroha, she worked to revive lost rivers, beautify ponds, and successfully organise the historic Ganga fair. She also took important steps to ensure women's safety during the event.
Who is Anurag Vats?
Her husband, Anurag Vats, is a 2013-batch IPS officer. Born on July 5, 1990, he belongs to Ghaziabad and holds a B.Tech degree in Electronics and Communication. He served as SP North in Lucknow in 2019, where he gained recognition for strict action against criminals and discipline within the police force. He led operations against a gang of Bangladeshi robbers and played a key role in their arrest.
He is known for taking action without influence and has handled sensitive cases firmly. He later served as SP in Kanpur Dehat and Barabanki. In November 2022, he was sent on central deputation and is currently posted in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, in New Delhi.
