A video is being shared with the claim that a Dalit BJP worker was assaulted by party members in Agra after he sat on a sofa at the BJP office.
Fact
- We conducted a reverse image search on the viral video, which led us to an India Today report dated July 21, 2025, carrying the same footage. According to the report, the video was from Latur, Maharashtra, where a clash broke out after activists of All India Chhava Sanghatna protested during a press conference of NCP Maharashtra president Sunil Tatkare, demanding the resignation of agriculture minister Manikrao Kokate over a viral video allegedly showing him playing a mobile game during the monsoon session of the state legislature.
Screengrab from India Today website - We also found a report by Times of India, dated July 21, 2025, carrying visuals from the same incident. It added members of Chhava Sanghatna threw playing cards at Sunil Tatkare during the press conference while demanding Kokate’s resignation. Shortly after Tatkare left the venue, local NCP workers allegedly assaulted members of the Maratha outfit, with one activist reportedly being struck on the head with a chair as police attempted to control the situation.

- After the claim went viral, BJP Agra Mahanagar president Rajkumar Gupta denied the viral claim and stated that some people were circulating misleading videos on social media to tarnish the party’s image and warned that legal action had been initiated against those responsible.

Our investigation found that the viral video is not from Agra and has no connection with a Dalit BJP worker allegedly being assaulted for sitting on a sofa in a BJP office. The footage actually shows a clash in Latur, Maharashtra, involving workers of the NCP and activists of Chhava Sanghatna during a protest over Maharashtra agriculture minister Manikrao Kokate.
