Original PTI Video Shows Different Statement
A reverse image search of a keyframe from the viral clip led us to the original, longer video posted by PTI on its official X account on July 23, 2026.
In the authentic video, Piyush Goyal discusses the government's response to the alleged NEET paper leak. In that footage, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal says, "Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made it clear that the strictest possible action will be taken against those responsible. Fast-track courts will be set up to ensure swift and stringent punishment for the guilty. The government will also take several additional measures to ensure that the hopes and aspirations of the country's youth are fulfilled. We appeal to the Congress party and the Opposition not to politicise this issue. Do not shy away from a discussion. The Opposition is avoiding a debate and is politicising the matter. We strongly condemn this. We urge everyone to maintain peace and fulfil our collective responsibility to resolve this issue through discussion…" At no point does he threaten protesters or make the remarks heard in the viral clip.
PIB Fact Check Flags Video As Fake
During our investigation, we found that PIB Fact Check published a clarification on July 24, 2026, stating that the viral statement attributed to Piyush Goyal was fake and that the circulating clip had been created using AI-generated audio.
AI-Detection Tools Flag Audio As Synthetic
Newschecker analysed the audio using multiple AI-detection tools.
- Resemble AI identified the speech as likely AI-generated.
- Deepfake-o-Meter also classified the audio as likely synthetic.
The combined findings strongly indicate that the original speech was manipulated by replacing or altering the audio using artificial intelligence.
Piyush Goyal Calls Out Viral Clip
On July 25, 2026, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal publicly dismissed the viral clip as fake and described it as deepfake content.
In a post on X, he stated that a complaint had already been lodged at Chanakyapuri Police Station regarding the circulation of the manipulated video. He also urged people not to believe or share viral content without verifying its authenticity.
Thus it is clear that the viral video showing Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal threatening the protesters is not real, but edited.
