At least 165 people have been killed and hundreds remain missing after flash floods and landslides struck parts of Nepal on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. Amid the devastation, several visuals have surfaced online, with users linking it to the recent disaster.
One such footage comprising two segments, a clip of what appears to be a mudslide and another one showing a house being swept away by floodwaters, is being shared as visuals from the recent flash floods in Nepal.

We investigated the clips separately.
Clip 1
A reverse image search of the first video led us to a Reddit post, dated February 2, 2024, that carried a longer version of the same footage and identified it as being from Myanmar.
The same footage was also uploaded on YouTube by @lwinwaiye3490 on January 28, 2024.

Clip 2
A reverse image search of the second video led us to a report published by The Mirror on June 17, 2022, which carried visuals of the same house being swept away. The report stated that the house in Gardiner, Montana, collapsed after severe storms caused rapidly rising floodwaters in the area near Yellowstone National Park in the US.
Further, a CBS News report dated June 14, 2022, also featured visuals of the same incident. It reported that a waterfront house in Montana was swept into the Yellowstone River after torrential rain and rapidly melting snow caused severe flooding in Yellowstone National Park.

Our investigation found that both videos being shared as visuals of the recent Nepal floods are old and unrelated to the disaster. The first video was online at least as early as 2024, while the second shows a house being swept away in Montana during the 2022 Yellowstone floods.
