Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal thanked Punjab voters on May 29, 2026, following the party's significant victories in the state's urban civic elections.
Posting on X, Kejriwal described the results as a historic endorsement of the Bhagwant Mann government's work.
He said, “Heartfelt thanks to the people of Punjab for the spectacular victory of the Aam Aadmi Party in the urban areas of Punjab. Congratulations to everyone. By casting this historic vote, the people have applauded the work of the Bhagwant Mann government.”
Kejriwal accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which he referred to as the “ED party,” of harassment through Enforcement Directorate raids on small traders in Punjab. “The ED party has been wiped out. The ED party, which harassed people by conducting so many raids on small traders in Punjab, has today been avenged by the people,” he stated.
In an attached video, he said, “There was also a narrative being pushed by the ‘ED party,’ claiming they were strong in the cities. Today, it is clear that the ‘ED party’ has been completely wiped out from the urban areas.”
Kejriwal further criticised the BJP for what he described as misuse of the Enforcement Directorate against small traders, particularly Hindu traders, resulting in the party’s defeat. “The manner in which ordinary traders, particularly Hindu traders, were harassed by the ED in Punjab has backfired. The people have taken revenge against them, resulting in their complete washout across the state,” he said.
In a separate post, Kejriwal warned that the “ED party” plans further raids on traders and urged vigilance. He added, “Our government is fully standing with all traders. The ED party must be completely driven out of Punjab.”
The Aam Aadmi Party won 105 of 246 wards in the Nagar Panchayat polls, leading to a clean sweep in several municipalities such as Kot Ise Khan in Moga, Rayya in Amritsar, Mehraj in Bathinda, Lohian Khas in Jalandhar, and Bhikhiwind in Tarn Taran.
