Actor Simran Ahuja expressed sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following plans to implement the Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament.
Speaking to ANI, she stated, “We are truly overwhelmed and elated. Our gracious, humble thanks to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. Along with being inspired and empowered, the amendments, which are for all the girls, ladies and women, are to excel in our endeavours. So thank you to our Prime Minister for giving us so many opportunities.”
She described the bill as the “dawn for all the girls and ladies who want to work for their families and their country.” Ahuja expressed support for women and their aspirations.
The Women’s Reservation Bill proposes 33 per cent representation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. It has been praised by several celebrities as a significant step towards gender equality in India’s legislative processes. Public figures including Shweta Tripathi, Priya Malik, Hrishitaa Bhatt, Dipika Chikhlia, Mukesh Rishi, and Himani Shivpuri have also voiced their support for the bill.
Earlier on the same day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised that reservation for women in legislative bodies is the “need of the hour” and described any delay in its implementation as “deeply unfortunate.” He posted on X, “Reservation for women in legislative bodies is the need of the hour! This will make our democracy even more vibrant and participative. Any delay in bringing this reservation will be deeply unfortunate. Expressed my thoughts on the issue in this Op-Ed.”
The Prime Minister’s comments coincided with the Union cabinet’s approval on Thursday of a draft amendment bill to the Women’s Reservation Act, which will ensure its implementation in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. The amendment guarantees 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative bodies.
