As counting continues in the 2026 Assam Assembly Elections, Asom Gana Parishad President Atul Bora expressed confidence in the National Democratic Alliance's performance, attributing it to the development work carried out by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Speaking to ANI, Bora said, “This is a good beginning. I am sure we will win…NDA has chances of performing better than before. The way our government and our CM have worked for development in Assam, people are with us.”

He criticised the Indian National Congress, stating, “Congress did nothing for the people of the state, and the people do not trust them..BJP will win with a thumping majority again, and Himanta Biswa Sarma will once again become the CM.”

Election trends indicated the BJP surpassed the majority mark of 64 seats, supported by a consolidation of the Hindu vote that has transformed Assam’s political landscape. This outcome signifies a significant setback for the Congress-led opposition.

According to Election Commission of India data, the BJP led in 79 seats, the Congress in 23, the Bodoland People’s Front in 10, and the Asom Gana Parishad in 9. The All India United Democratic Front led in 2 seats, while Raijor Dal and the United People’s Party, Liberal led in two and one seat, respectively.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the Bharatiya Janata Party headquarters in New Delhi on Monday evening amid the promising electoral trends in West Bengal and Assam. BJP chief spokesperson Anil Baluni announced on X, “Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji will visit BJP HQ, New Delhi today at 6 PM.”
