Joint CP (Southern Range) Vijay Kumar stated that Rahul Meena, accused in the murder of a 22-year-old civil servant's daughter in southeast Delhi's Amar Colony, sold his mobile phone for Rs 10,000 and hired transport for approximately Rs 6,000 to travel to Delhi.

This was believed to be an effort to avoid police tracking following an alleged molestation in Alwar.

Investigations revealed that police teams had visited Meena’s residence in Alwar, where it was discovered he was allegedly involved in a molestation incident in his locality a day before the murder. Subsequently, Meena fled to Delhi to evade police action.

The Delhi Police arrested Rahul Meena from an OYO hotel in Dwarka on Wednesday. Kumar noted that multiple teams were deployed across Delhi and other locations to locate and apprehend the suspect, who is currently undergoing interrogation.

According to investigators, Meena had been employed as a domestic helper by the victim’s family for approximately one year and was familiar with the household’s routines, including the parents leaving for a morning walk and gym sessions, which left the victim alone at home.

CCTV footage showed the accused entering the colony at around 6:30 am on the day of the incident, entering the house at 6:39 am, and leaving about 7:20 am. Police said he used a spare key kept in a shoe rack for domestic workers to gain access, as there were no signs of forced entry.

The victim’s father alerted Delhi Police after finding his daughter unconscious at home. She was taken to hospital where she was declared dead.

Investigators reported that the accused committed the crime, changed his clothes, and fled with about Rs 2.5 lakh in cash from the house.

A case has been registered against Rahul Meena under charges including rape, murder and robbery, and further investigation is ongoing, police added.
