Union Home Minister Amit Shah responded to a supporter waiting for his roadshow in West Bengal, promising to arrive within 10 minutes.

The exchange occurred after Shah posted a video on Instagram on April 24, captioned, “The sun of the TMC’s corruption and hooliganism has set.”

A user commented, “Jaldi aa jaiye, Amit ji…khade hai hum log road show k liye garmi me bohot der se (Please come quickly, Amit ji… We have been standing here in the heat for a very long time, waiting for the roadshow).” Shah replied, “Sorry for the delay. Reaching there in 10 mins.”

The roadshow was held to campaign for BJP candidate Anindya Raju Banerjee, who is contesting against Trinamool Congress's three-time MLA Rathin Ghosh in the Madhyamgram Assembly Constituency of North 24 Parganas. The constituency has been held by the TMC since its creation in the 2011 delimitation, but the BJP is optimistic due to Ghosh's narrow 1.2 per cent winning margin in the last two elections.

Sharing visuals from the roadshow on X, Amit Shah stated, “The people of Madhyamgram Assembly Constituency have not forgotten the atrocities committed against women in Sandeshkhali. This surge of people spilling over during the roadshow is a symbol of the end of the grassroots regime.”

Meanwhile, Phase I polling for the West Bengal Assembly elections ended at 6 pm on April 24, with the Election Commission of India reporting a voter turnout of 91.83 per cent. The high participation highlighted a vigorous electoral process amid tight security across constituencies. Phase II polling is scheduled for April 29, with vote counting set for May 4.
