New Delhi, June 8: The Union Home and Cooperation Minister, Amit Shah, will launch the Land Port Management System (LPMS) on Tuesday in New Delhi, marking a significant advancement in India's border and internal security under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.
This initiative highlights the government's commitment to smart border management by improving efficiency, transparency, and security in cross-border trade and passenger movement through technology-driven solutions.
During the event, the Union Home Minister will also inaugurate newly developed Stakeholder accommodation facilities at the Dawki (Meghalaya) and Srimantapur (Tripura) Land Ports. These facilities aim to strengthen infrastructure support for border security personnel and other stakeholders.
The LPMS launch represents a key step towards a modern, technology-enabled smart border management system, aligning with India's strategic goals of enhancing trade facilitation, connectivity, national security, and achieving Viksit Bharat by 2047.
The LPMS is a digital platform designed to integrate operations across land ports into a unified system. It facilitates secure, real-time exchange of logistics and regulatory information and aims to bring land ports in line with digital systems operational at airports and seaports.
As a neutral and open platform, LPMS will enable seamless coordination among government agencies and private operators, reducing delays and improving operational efficiency.
The system supports end-to-end digital workflows for cargo and passenger processing, including slot booking, payments, tracking, and single-window clearances. It is fully integrated with national platforms such as ICEGATE, ULIP, and the motor vehicle ecosystem, enabling interoperable, efficient, and transparent border management.
The Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), a statutory body under the Department of Border Management, Ministry of Home Affairs, oversees the development and management of land ports to facilitate trade, connectivity, and regional cooperation.
Currently, LPAI operates 15 land ports along India's international borders: Attari (Punjab) and Dera Baba Nanak (Punjab) on the India-Pakistan border; Rupaidiha (Uttar Pradesh), Raxaul (Bihar), and Jogbani (Bihar) on the India-Nepal border; Darranga (Assam) on the India-Bhutan border; Petrapole (West Bengal), Dawki (Meghalaya), Sutarkandi, Golakganj, and Mankachar (Assam), Agartala, Srimantapur, and Sabroom (Tripura) on the India-Bangladesh border; and Moreh (Manipur) on the India-Myanmar border.
