Actor Anupam Kher has announced the world premiere of his new play, 'Jaane Pehchane Anjane', scheduled for April 12 at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai.

The play, written and directed by Gajendra Ahire and featuring music composed by Anu Malik, represents a significant creative endeavour for Kher.

Sharing the news on Instagram, Kher said, “This musical by legendary Anu Malik, written and directed by the brilliant Gajendra Ahire, has been a labour of love for a long time. Every moment, every note, every word has been crafted with passion and purpose.” He described the play as “not just a story. It is a reflection of you. Your relationships, your memories, your emotions–unfolding live on stage.”

Earlier in March, Kher reflected on his theatrical beginnings, recalling his debut in 1982 at Prithvi Theatre with the play ‘Desire Under The Elms’. He stated, “That space didn’t just give me a stage! It gave me a HOPE. I met producers, directors, fellow dreamers. I found a part of myself I didn’t know existed.”

The production is presented by Anupam Kher Studio and co-stars actor Swaroop Sampat alongside Kher. The music, composed by Anu Malik, is his first foray into stage play composition. The narrative explores modern relationships, highlighting how individuals who seem familiar can still remain strangers. It focuses on emotions, memories, and connections through drama and music.

Noted singers Shaan, Sukhwinder Singh, and Anandi Joshi have contributed vocals to the play’s songs. Lyrics are by Kausar Munir, with choreography directed by Chirag Aggarwal. The cast also features Meghna Malik, Maya Sharma, Vikas Rawat, Shraddha Mandale, and Herman De Souza.
