The esteemed artist was a member of the renowned Mangeshkar family, which includes her late sister Lata Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar, and Meena Khadikar, all significant figures in Indian music history.

Asha Bhosle’s personal life featured two marriages. Her first was to Ganpatrao Bhosle, with whom she had three children: Hemant Bhosle, Varsha Bhosle, and Anand Bhosle. She later married the celebrated music composer Rahul Dev Burman, marking one of Bollywood’s most iconic musical partnerships. Together they created classics such as ‘Dum Maro Dum,’ ‘Piya Tu Ab To Aaja,’ ‘Chura Liya Hai Tumne,’ and ‘Mera Kuchh Samaan.’

Her eldest son, Hemant Bhosle, pursued a career in music composition, contributing to films including Dharam Shatru (1988), Sansani: The Sensation (1981), and Raja Jogi (1983). He died in 2015. Her daughter Varsha Bhosle, a journalist, passed away in 2012. Anand Bhosle is involved in managing his mother’s professional work. The family also includes grandchildren, who maintain a low public profile but remain connected to her musical legacy.

The Mangeshkar family is esteemed as one of India’s most influential musical dynasties. Alongside the late Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle and her siblings significantly shaped the golden era of Indian music. Her unique voice, described as simultaneously playful and profound, sensuous and spiritual, resonated across generations, languages, and continents.

Following her death, Anand Bhosle confirmed the arrangements for her last rites, stating, “People can pay their last respects to her at 11 am tomorrow at Casa Grande, Lower Parel, where she lived. Her last rites will be performed at 4 pm tomorrow at Shivaji Park.”

Asha Bhosle’s unprecedented career includes over a thousand recorded songs in multiple languages. She held a Guinness World Record as the most recorded artist in history. Her contributions extended beyond prolific output; she revolutionised singing styles and emotional expression in music, transcending genres, age groups, and expectations.
