On World Cancer Day, Vedanta Limited reaffirmed its dedication to improving cancer care in India through the Balco Medical Centre (BMC), a 170-bed oncology hospital in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

Since its establishment in 2018, BMC has become a prominent centre for cancer treatment in central India, providing affordable, advanced, and curative care.

Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3, which promotes good health and well-being, the centre has treated nearly 65,000 patients, performed almost 12,000 major surgeries, and administered over 80,000 chemotherapy sessions. It also conducts extensive outreach, having organised more than 500 community health screening camps and cancer awareness programmes to support early detection and prevention in urban and rural areas.

India faces a significant cancer burden, with many cases diagnosed late and advanced treatments limited to metropolitan areas. BMC helps address this disparity by making quality cancer care more accessible outside major cities. Recently, the centre performed a complex Whipple pancreaticoduodenectomy with portal vein resection on a 42-year-old patient with borderline resectable pancreatic cancer, a procedure typically available only at specialised centres worldwide.

Jyoti Agarwal, Chairperson of Vedanta Medical Research Foundation, commented, “World Cancer Day is a reminder that awareness, early detection and timely treatment are among the most effective tools we have to reduce the burden of cancer. Through BALCO Medical Centre and its community-focused interventions, we remain committed to expanding access to quality cancer care and encouraging a proactive approach to health. By taking preventive healthcare closer to communities, we aim to contribute meaningfully to a healthier and more resilient society.”

Dr Bhawna Sirohi, Medical Director of Vedanta Medical Research Foundation, added, “Early diagnosis and informed decision-making significantly improve cancer outcomes. Our initiatives on World Cancer Day reflect our dual focus on clinical excellence and community engagement. Through screenings, awareness programmes and expert-led interactions, we continue to empower individuals with the knowledge and support needed for timely intervention and a better quality of life.”

As part of its World Cancer Day efforts, BMC organised several cancer screening camps across Chhattisgarh in collaboration with community organisations and educational institutions, including a ‘Knowledge is Power’ awareness webinar. From February 1 to 7, 2026, the centre offered a 20% concession on select health screening packages to encourage preventive health measures.

Outreach activities included screening camps with Terapanth Samaj in Raipur, Rungta Dental College in Bhilai, and joint initiatives with the State Health System Resource Centre and Dear Foundation, Switzerland. The centre also provides comprehensive support services, such as psychological counselling, nutritional guidance, physical therapy, and patient support groups to assist individuals throughout their care journey.

Balco Medical Centre is the flagship project of the Vedanta Medical Research Foundation. Its team of specialists regularly delivers awareness talks, health camps, and webinars to educate students, professionals, and community members about the importance of early risk reduction through timely preventive screening, thereby making a significant impact on the lives of many.
