BCB discusses India tour and cricket collaboration in Dhaka meeting

TheNewsMill 6 days ago

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) convened a meeting in Dhaka on April 4, chaired by President Aminul Islam Bulbul, to discuss relations with India, upcoming tours, and cooperation in cricket.

Nazmul Abedin Fahim, a director of the BCB, confirmed that the board had sent a routine email to India outlining plans for the Indian cricket team’s tour of Bangladesh in September and the Bangladesh women’s team tour of India. The correspondence also explored further possibilities for cricket collaboration between the BCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Speaking to ANI, Fahim stated, “such exchanges are part of routine engagement with international cricket boards.” He added the recent email detailed the scheduled tours and sought to identify additional areas for bilateral cricket cooperation.

Recent events have influenced the context of these discussions. The inclusion of Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman by the Kolkata Knight Riders, co-owned by Shah Rukh Khan, had caused controversy when the player did not participate in the tournament. This incident contributed to temporary tensions between the two cricket boards, resulting in Bangladesh withdrawing from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

However, diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and India have improved following political changes in Bangladesh, prompting both countries to express interest in rebuilding and enhancing cricket ties. Upcoming diplomatic visits, including one by Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister to India, are anticipated to support cooperation in which cricket remains a significant focus.
