The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to take control of West Bengal, leading on 194 seats in the state assembly elections, marking a major change in the region's political landscape.

Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) is currently leading on 87 seats, signalling a significant setback to Banerjee's 15-year rule.

Former Union Minister Smriti Irani criticised the INDIA bloc alliance, describing it as a “failed experiment” lacking ideology and leadership. Irani specifically targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for their inability to unite the alliance and connect with voters.

Publishing on X, Irani stated: “The election results in West Bengal have exposed the true face of the so-called INDI alliance… no ideology, no leadership, and no trust! This is nothing but a failed experiment for the sake of power.” She added, “Throughout the entire election, Rahul Gandhi was unable to provide direction, nor could he hold the alliance together. All the allies scattered, yet there was no strategy in place.”

Irani asserted that the electorate had rejected “the politics of violence, chaos, and appeasement,” attributing the BJP’s success to the public’s confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. “This mandate reflects the people’s trust in development, stability, and the decisive leadership of our illustrious Prime Minister Shri @NarendraModi ji,” she said.

Alongside the gains in West Bengal, the BJP is also performing strongly in Assam, where it is poised to secure a historic third consecutive term. The party's electoral success coincides with a high voter turnout and an assertive campaign centred on promises of development and effective governance.

As vote counting continues, BJP leaders are optimistic about consolidating their position in West Bengal for the foreseeable future. Irani concluded, “This is not just a victory, but a resounding defeat for the opportunistic alliance and weak leadership. Bengal has shown the way… the end of the INDI alliance is certain.”
