Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President KT Rama Rao has criticised the Telangana Government led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for what he described as a 'grave injustice' to nearly 14 lakh students from BC, SC, ST, and minority communities.
He alleged that Government Order (GO 7) represents a “dark and deliberate attempt” to dismantle the fee reimbursement scheme.
Rama Rao claimed that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is interfering with a vital support system that enables access to higher education for economically weaker sections. He added that this move would effectively deny thousands of poor students the opportunity for higher education and jeopardise their futures. KTR demanded the immediate withdrawal of GO 7 and called on the Chief Minister to issue a public apology to the student community.
Highlighting financial difficulties in the education sector, he noted that the state government has failed to clear fee reimbursement dues amounting to nearly ₹10,000 crore over the last two and a half years. This delay has severely affected over 2,500 educational institutions, causing colleges to struggle to operate and students to face challenges in obtaining certificates and continuing their studies.
KTR further criticised the government for misleading stakeholders through committees, token payments, and delayed assurances rather than addressing the core issue of pending dues. He recalled that the “fee reimbursement programme was introduced by former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and was effectively continued and strengthened in Telangana by K. Chandrashekar Rao to ensure inclusive access to education.” He questioned the current government’s intention in weakening such an important welfare initiative.
He also expressed concern over the worsening condition of residential educational institutions and alleged administrative neglect in maintaining basic facilities for students.
Warning of statewide protests, Rama Rao stated that the BRS would not remain a silent spectator if the government continued to undermine the future of students. “If the student community is forced to take to the streets, the government will be held accountable for the consequences,” he warned.
The BRS Working President reiterated the party’s demand for the immediate release of outstanding dues and the withdrawal of GO 7 to protect the futures of lakhs of students across Telangana.
