Chennaiyin FC were held to a goalless draw by Mohammedan SC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on April 21, despite controlling significant portions of the match and generating the better scoring chances.
The Marina Machans displayed attacking intent throughout the game but were unable to secure a breakthrough in front of their home supporters, according to a club release.
Head coach Clifford Rayes Miranda gave Klusner Pereira his first Indian Super League start. Maheson Singh and Imran Khan returned to the starting lineup, while Irfan Yadwad partnered Daniel Chima Chukwu in attack.
Chennaiyin began aggressively, aiming to build on their previous win. Klusner delivered a dangerous early cross that earned a corner, and Eduardo Kau nearly scored with a header from a set-piece that narrowly missed the target.
Mohammedan's goalkeeper Mohammad Nawaz produced a superb save in the 29th minute, tipping Hira Mondal's shot away with an instinctive fingertip stop to keep the scores level. He then comfortably handled a series of crosses as Chennaiyin pushed forward, with Chima almost capitalising on a delivery from Imran Khan.
Late in the first half, Chennaiyin substituted the injured Klusner Pereira for Mandar Rao Dessai. PC Laldinpuia missed a chance from a corner, and Imran's clever backheel set up Laldinliana Renthlei, whose dangerous cross was just cleared before Irfan could shoot, concluding an engaging first half.
The Marina Machans sustained their attacking pressure in the second half, focusing on wing play. Laldinliana was lively, delivering dangerous crosses early on, while an acrobatic effort from Chima following an Imran pass went off target. Substitute S Prakadeswaran injected pace and confidence, attempting a curling shot towards the far corner.
Mohammedan countered with Lalrinliana Hnamte making a key intervention to halt a promising attack. Chennaiyin then advanced again, with Irfan at the centre of the action. He was brought down inside the box, but penalty appeals were denied. Irfan later provided a fine outside-of-the-foot cross to Chima, who shot over. Mohammed Ali Bemammer and Prakadeswaran also had notable chances as pressure mounted.
Despite continuous attacking efforts, Chennaiyin could not secure a winning goal. The team will next travel to face Jamshedpur FC on April 25.
