Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy extended his greetings to the working communities on International Workers Day (May 1) on Thursday.
In a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, he emphasised that the People’s Government is progressing in alignment with the spirit of the working class and affirmed that workers will be accorded due respect and dignity.
The Chief Minister described workers as the true partners in the development of Telangana State, as envisioned by his administration. He noted that the state government's new industrial policy would play a significant role in uplifting and empowering the workforce.
Reiterating that the welfare and well-being of workers remain the government’s highest priority, CM Revanth Reddy said, “Inspired by the spirit of May Day, the government was implementing numerous welfare and developmental programmes.” He pointed to recent initiatives such as the launch of a Rs 5 Lakh accident insurance scheme for gig workers in the unorganised sector and the introduction of the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Welfare Act.
The Chief Minister highlighted various other measures aimed solely at the welfare of workers, stating, “Lakhs of people are securing employment directly and indirectly.” He also mentioned that long-pending compassionate appointments in various government departments had been filled.
The government is releasing bonuses ahead of the Dasara and Diwali festivals to the workers of the Singareni company, which has been instrumental in the state's development and holds national significance. For the first time in Singareni's history, the government provided a bonus of Rs 5,000 to each contract worker.
In cooperation with banks, the state government is providing insurance coverage worth Rs 1 crore to Singareni workers. Special steps are being taken to support Telangana workers employed in Gulf countries, including financial assistance of Rs 5 Lakh for the kin of workers who have died there.
