Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has initiated a significant reshuffle within West Bengal's executive administration by transferring seven experienced West Bengal Civil Service (WBCS) officers to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) in his first major administrative action since taking office.

The Personnel and Administrative Reforms (P&AR) Department formalised the move through notification No. 904-PAR (WBCS)/1D-109/2026, dated May 10, 2026, with the Governor's approval. The appointments as Senior Deputy Secretaries in the CMO are effective immediately and are aimed at advancing the new administration's "Sonar Bangla" agenda.

The appointed officers are:

• Pramit Das (Batch 2003), from District SWO & SEO, Howrah;
• Samrat Chakraborty (Batch 2004), from the Housing Department;
• Amartya Chakraborti (Batch 2007), from the Fisheries Department;
• Ayan Dutta Gupta (Batch 2007), formerly Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Diamond Harbour;
• Rajarshi Nath (Batch 2008), formerly SDO, Bardhaman Sadar North;
• Dip Bhaduri (Batch 2008), from District SWO & SEO, Purba Medinipur;
• Surajit Ray (Batch 2011), previously Additional Director, DLRS.

This administrative overhaul follows the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) landmark victory in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, where the party secured 206 seats out of 294, a significant increase from 77 seats in the previous election. The Trinamool Congress (TMC), which previously held 212 seats, finished second with 80 seats and is leading in one constituency.

Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the ninth Chief Minister of West Bengal on Saturday in a ceremony held in Kolkata, administered by Governor RN Ravi. The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers, and senior BJP leaders.
