Congress leader Bilkis Bano stated on Saturday that whether Siddaramaiah's son, Yathindra, will receive a cabinet position in Karnataka is a decision for the party high command.
Responding to questions about reports of Yathindra’s induction into the cabinet, Bano told ANI, “I don’t know; that is left up to the high command. There is a demand from the youth, also. If the party takes a decision, he will also become a cabinet minister.”
She affirmed that party workers would comply with the high command’s decision, adding, “Party workers and the party will always obey the high command’s decision. A CLP meeting has been called at 4 pm today. General secretaries are attending the meeting; they will convey the message of the high command, and a decision will be taken.”
Bano’s remarks followed reports of Yathindra leaving his Bengaluru residence amid speculation about his induction into the new cabinet under a new Chief Minister.
Regarding the Deputy Chief Minister post amid leadership discussions in Karnataka, she reiterated, “The decision will be taken by the high command. There is a demand from all over Karnataka; the backwards classes are also demanding, and minorities are also demanding. So, the party will make a decision.”
On Friday, party leader D.K. Shivakumar said the CLP meeting would include party observers who would consult the Congress high command before making a final decision. When asked about the leadership transition and his potential elevation to Chief Minister, Shivakumar commented, “I still do not know when they will elect the leader of the Congress Legislature Party. Then we will discuss.”
These developments occur amid intensified political activity within the Karnataka Congress following Siddaramaiah’s resignation on May 28, which he described as voluntary and based on the party high command’s suggestion. Shivakumar previously met with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi to discuss legislative leadership, Rajya Sabha nominations, and organisational appointments in the state.
