Actor and filmmaker Dan Levy has considered a sequel to the acclaimed comedy series Schitt's Creek, but following the death of co-star Catherine O'Hara, he has decided not to pursue the project, according to Deadline.
In an interview promoting Levy’s upcoming Netflix comedy show Big Mistakes, the Emmy-winning creator revisited Goodwood, Ontario, the filming location for the fictional town central to Schitt’s Creek. Levy noted he had not returned to the set since the series concluded in 2020, including the Goodwood Mercantile store, which was used as his character David’s artisan shop, Rose Apothecary. The actual store now sells merchandise and features a condolence book honoring O’Hara.
“Yeah, I was thinking about it,” Levy said regarding a potential sequel. “It’s tough, it’s tough being back. I didn’t think that I’d have quite an emotional reaction,” he added, as quoted by Deadline. Levy became tearful when reflecting on his memories with O’Hara: “Just a lot of memories, a lot of memories with Catherine. It’s what you have to hold on to, is the memories of it all,” he said.
Schitt’s Creek became a major success during its six-season run from 2015 to 2020, gaining mainstream popularity after a Netflix boost. It starred Dan Levy, his father Eugene Levy, sister Sara Levy, and Catherine O’Hara, alongside Annie Murphy, Emily Hampshire, Chris Elliott, Jennifer Robertson, and Noah Reid. The series was nominated for 19 Emmy Awards, winning nine including Outstanding Comedy Series, and swept all four acting categories in which it was nominated.
Catherine O’Hara, a beloved two-time Emmy-winning actress known for her work on SCTV, Home Alone, and Schitt’s Creek, died in late January at age 71 due to a pulmonary embolism with rectal cancer as the underlying cause, Deadline reported.
