Delhi Capitals (DC) secured a commanding seven-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur on Friday, completing their highest successful chase in IPL history.
Chasing a target of 226 runs, DC surpassed their previous top run chases of 210 against Lucknow Super Giants in 2025, 209 against Gujarat Lions in 2017, and 207 against Punjab Kings in 2025.
This 226-run pursuit also ranks as the second-highest successful chase against Rajasthan Royals, behind only Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 229-run chase at the same ground earlier this season, highlighting the batting-friendly conditions in Jaipur.
The result further extended RR’s difficulties in home matches, marking their sixth loss in seven games at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium since 2025.
The match also reflected a wider trend in IPL 2026, where high-scoring chases have become more frequent. Only five successful chases of 220 runs or more occurred between 2008 and 2025, whereas the current season has already seen seven such instances.
Regarding individual performances, KL Rahul continued his strong form, earning his 17th Player of the Match award. This achievement places him among the top Indian players in this category, behind Rohit Sharma (21 awards), Virat Kohli (20), MS Dhoni (18), and level with Ravindra Jadeja (17).
Rajasthan Royals faced challenges with their bowling. England pacer Jofra Archer conceded 46 runs, his most expensive performance in an innings during this IPL season.
The victory was built on a robust 110-run opening partnership between KL Rahul (75 off 40 balls) and Pathum Nissanka (62 off 33 balls). The chase was concluded with contributions from Tristan Stubbs (18 not out) and Ashutosh Sharma (25 not out), reaching the target with five balls remaining.
Earlier, Riyan Parag top-scored for Rajasthan Royals with 90 runs off 50 balls, recording his first fifty-plus score of the season. Donovan Ferreira contributed an unbeaten 47 runs from 14 deliveries, guiding RR to a total of 225 for six after electing to bat first.
Parag stabilised the innings alongside Dhruv Jurel, who scored 42, following early wickets. Mitchell Starc returned to deliver key breakthroughs for DC, taking three wickets for 40 runs, including that of the Rajasthan Royals captain.
