Delhi Capitals (DC) bowling coach Munaf Patel has stressed the necessity for the team to give their '100 per cent' effort in critical matches, as the franchise faces the prospect of elimination from the IPL 2026.
Currently positioned seventh on the points table, DC have lost five of their eight matches so far, securing only three wins. They will face Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Friday, with six games remaining in the season.
Munaf Patel highlighted the importance of a committed approach in decisive situations, stating: “In do-or-die situations, the approach has to be 100 per cent. Because you know that if you lose one or two games, you are out of the tournament. So as a unit, you have to give your 100 per cent. Otherwise, it becomes very difficult to survive.”
The team endured contrasting defeats in their last two matches. Against Punjab Kings (PBKS), DC scored a commanding 264, but PBKS chased the total with seven balls remaining. In the subsequent game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), DC's batting collapsed, being dismissed for 75 runs in 16.3 overs, allowing RCB to comfortably reach the target with nine wickets in hand.
Patel affirmed the team will focus on maintaining their standard of play: “Our approach will remain the same. We will give our 100 per cent and focus on playing good cricket. Whether we bat first or bowl first, the idea is to control the game and minimise mistakes. We will play to win and not think too much about the result. If we play good cricket, the result will take care of itself.”
