DMK candidate and Minister KN Nehru submitted his nomination for the Tiruchirappalli West constituency on the first day of filing for the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections.

He lodged the papers with Returning Officer Thavavalavan at the Revenue Divisional Office.

On arrival, Nehru received a warm welcome from DMK cadres. He was accompanied by several party officials and allies, including Central District Secretary Vairamani, industrialist Ravichandran, MDMK District Secretary Vellamandi Somu, and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi District Secretary Ibrahim.

Addressing reporters after filing his nomination, Nehru said, “The Constitution allows anyone to contest elections from any constituency,” referring to TVK chief Vijay's candidacy from Tiruchirappalli East. He expressed confidence in public support for Chief Minister MK Stalin.

Nehru added, “Vijay may even contest from two constituencies out of fear,” recalling the 1977 elections when the DMK lost many seats in Tiruchirappalli but retained Tiruchirappalli East. He expressed certainty that the constituency would continue to favour the DMK.

He further stated, “The party’s election manifesto, which includes schemes for women, the general public, and farmers, would be well received by the people.” Describing the manifesto as the “hero” of the election, Nehru voiced confidence that the DMK would secure public support and return to power.

The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections will take place in a single phase on April 23, with vote counting scheduled for May 4. Major contesting parties include the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance, Naam Tamilar Katchi, and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.

The DMK will contest 164 of the 234 state constituencies, allocating 70 seats to alliance partners. These include the Congress Party with 28 seats, the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) each with 5 seats, VCK with 8 seats, and MDMK with 4 seats.

Other alliance members contesting seats are Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) with 10 seats, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) with 2 seats, and several regional parties.
