Dr Nikhil Tandon has been appointed as the officiating Director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi. He currently serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, as well as Dean (Academic), according to an Office Memorandum.

Dr Tandon will take on the responsibilities of Director in addition to his existing duties, “with immediate effect for six months or till a regular Director is appointed, whichever is earlier,” the memorandum stated. This appointment is described as a “working arrangement” rather than a full appointment, with a search-cum-selection committee to be convened to appoint a permanent director.

The previous AIIMS Delhi Director, Dr M Sirinivas, was relieved from his post after being appointed as a full-time member of the NITI Aayog, replacing Dr VK Paul. Dr Sirinivas was appointed Director of AIIMS Delhi on September 22, 2022, and previously served as dean of the Employees’ State Insurance Company (ESIC) Hospital and Medical College in Hyderabad.
