East Bengal FC will face Bengaluru FC in a crucial Indian Super League 2025-26 match at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Thursday, April 16, as both teams aim to sustain their title aspirations.

Kick-off is set for 19:30 IST, with live streaming available on FanCode and broadcast on Sony Sports TEN 2.

East Bengal returns to Salt Lake following a significant 3-1 away win against Chennaiyin FC. The victory was secured by early strike from Edmund Lalrindika and late goals from Bipin Singh and Nandha Kumar. Currently fourth in the standings with 14 points from seven games, East Bengal looks to secure maximum points to remain in contention. A win would raise them to 17 points and move them into second place ahead of rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant on goal difference.

East Bengal head coach Oscar Bruzon said, “Our performance metrics are very positive; we are scoring the most goals and conceding the least. However, Bengaluru is coming after a defeat and has a new coach. We must take it game by game, as consistency is key.”

Bengaluru FC arrive in Kolkata aiming to rebound after a 1-2 home loss to Kerala Blasters FC. Despite an early lead, Bengaluru were reduced to ten men in the first half, contributing to their defeat. The Blues currently occupy fifth place with 14 points, level with East Bengal, and a victory would elevate them above their opponents to regain momentum.

However, Bengaluru will be without attacker Braian Sanchez, who is suspended following a straight red card in their previous match. Head coach Pep Munoz noted, “They are a very offensive team, especially in possession, but there are ways to attack their structure. Playing away, we need to be solid defensively but also try to score. We must be compact and competitive.”

Historically, East Bengal and Bengaluru FC have played 10 ISL matches against each other, with four wins each and two draws. Their prior meeting last season concluded in a 1-1 draw at the Vijekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.

East Bengal winger Bipin Singh commented, “Bengaluru are a very good team with strong players, but we are focusing on our coach’s plans and our own game. We will follow our strategy and give our best. Three points are crucial for us at this stage of the season, and we will do everything to achieve that.”

Bengaluru FC midfielder Suresh Wangjam added, “Away games are always tough because of the supporters, but we enjoy playing in front of big crowds. We will stick to our plan and not think too much about pressure. If we do that, the result can be in our favour.”

A win for East Bengal would significantly enhance their title bid and please home supporters by strengthening their second-place standing. Alternatively, a victory for Bengaluru FC would boost their own title prospects. With important points at stake, Thursday’s match promises to be a tightly contested encounter in Kolkata.
