A large number of devotees gathered at the church to participate in the Easter Mass. During the service, worshippers exchanged the light of candles, symbolising hope, faith, and renewal. They also renewed their baptismal vows and offered prayers while holding candles, creating a spiritually uplifting environment.

Easter, a principal festival in Christianity, was celebrated across Tamil Nadu and globally with joy and reverence. Churches conducted special Masses and prayer services to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who was crucified and rose on the third day.

Christians observe a 40-day Lenten period each year in preparation for Easter, which this year began on February 18 with Ash Wednesday. During Lent, devotees engaged in spiritual activities including fasting, Lenten walks, meditations, pilgrimages, and participation in the Way of the Cross, reflecting on Jesus Christ’s sufferings and sacrifice.

The final week of Lent, known as Holy Week, carries particular significance. It commenced with Palm Sunday, followed by Maundy Thursday on April 2 and Good Friday on April 3, commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Good Friday preceded Easter, marking his resurrection, regarded as the most important event in Christianity.

At the Sacred Heart Church in Udaiyarpatti, special prayers and rituals were held during the celebrations. As part of the observance, the church lights were turned off, and the resurrection was depicted through candlelight, enhancing the spiritual atmosphere of the ceremony.

The programme also featured a sermon by Parish Priest Michael Rasu and pastoral worker Rajesh. The Holy Mass concluded following the sermon, with thousands of devotees participating in the Easter celebrations, demonstrating devotion and unity.
