A fatwa has been issued against actor-performer Nora Fatehi concerning the song 'Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke' from the upcoming Kannada film 'KD: The Devil', which also features Sanjay Dutt.

The Muslim Personal Darul Ifta in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, has criticised the song for containing lyrics they consider objectionable and contrary to Islamic teachings.

Following widespread criticism of the track’s lyrics and visuals, the Union government confirmed on March 19 that the song had been banned. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the decision in the Lok Sabha in response to a question from Samajwadi Party MP Anand Bhadouria.

The song has faced backlash since its release earlier this week, with various organisations alleging it contained “vulgar” lyrics and visuals that objectified women. Complaints were filed demanding a First Information Report (FIR) and the removal of the track, escalating public debate prior to the parliamentary statement.

In response, Nora Fatehi posted a detailed video on Instagram on March 18, stating she had no involvement in the Hindi version of the song. She said, “When I shot this song three years ago, I said yes to it because it was a part of a big film, it was with a big icon, Sanjay Dutt, who would say no to working with him? He’s such an icon. And it was a remake, at least that’s what I thought, of ‘Nayak Nahi Khalnayak Hoon Main’, which is also a very iconic song.”

She added that the makers had explained the translation of the song to her at the time, and nothing seemed “inappropriate” or “vulgar.” Nora clarified that she does not understand Kannada and had relied entirely on the information provided by the team.

Produced by Venkat K Narayana under KVN Productions, ‘KD: The Devil’ is a period action entertainer inspired by real events from 1970s Bangalore. The film stars Dhruva Sarja in the titular role alongside Sanjay Dutt, Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Ramesh Aravind, Reeshma Nanaiah, and V Ravichandran.

The movie is scheduled for theatrical release on April 30, 2026.
