A fire erupted late on Sunday night in a four-storey building in the Mukherjee Nagar area of Delhi, prompting a rapid response from the Delhi Fire Service (DFS).
All residents trapped inside were evacuated safely, with no casualties reported.
The DFS received a call about the fire at 10:30 pm, and firefighters arrived promptly, bringing the blaze under control by approximately 12:15 am. Further details are awaited.
In a separate incident on Sunday, rescue teams confirmed they discovered “no signs of survivors or live victims” beneath the debris of a five-storey building that collapsed in Mehrauli the previous day. Despite using advanced mechanical equipment and sniffer dogs, officials found no indication of survivors.
The collapse resulted in six fatalities and seven injuries. Speaking to the media, Suneel Kumar Singh, Commandant of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), stated, “The work of removing debris is underway. The NDRF team is on the ground and is on standby. If needed, they will continue their work. Sniffer dogs are used to locate survivors trapped inside. They track scents and provide indicators that dog handlers can interpret. However, in our search using dogs, no survivor was indicated. Therefore, using all our equipment, whether mechanical or canine resources, we haven’t found any trace of a live victim.”
The collapsed building was situated in Gali No 5, Western Marg, Said-ul-Azaib, near Saket Metro Station. Officials reported that the building collapse was first noticed at approximately 7:35 pm during a routine patrol by beat staff from Police Station Mehrauli in Saidulajab village. The personnel rushed to the site and requested assistance, with the first PCR call logged at 7:38 pm.
