The Pimpri-Chinchwad Fire Department conducted a complex rescue operation to safely bring down a man who had climbed a high-tension transmission tower in the Nigdi area on the night of April 27.
The operation lasted several hours and involved eight fire teams with a specialised force of approximately 50 to 60 personnel. Officials reported that the individual appeared intoxicated, which added to the challenges of the rescue.
Fire Officer Rushikesh Chipade, who led the effort, said, “The person who climbed the tower appeared to be drunk. He was in no condition to speak or follow instructions, so we couldn’t rely on his cooperation. He had to be forcibly brought down.”
Explaining the technical aspects, Chipade stated, “To prevent him from falling, two of our men initially installed a safety line on the tower. They then climbed up and, using an aerial ladder platform, successfully secured him and brought him down to the ground.”
The man was handed over to local police for medical examination and legal action. Crowds gathered at the scene in Nigdi, but fire officials maintained a secured perimeter. Authorities are investigating how the man gained access to the restricted structure.
