TMC leader Madan Mitra stated on June 1 that the BJP-led West Bengal government must ensure good governance, emphasising that the public is closely observing events following alleged attacks on TMC MPs Abhishek Banerjee and Kalyan Banerjee.

Speaking to ANI, Mitra said, “He is still in trauma. He needs medicine and treatment. We went to meet him. It happened with Kalyan Banerjee today and Saugata Roy three days ago. They are all senior MPs. The public is watching everything. The BJP has to render good governance since they are in power.”

Referring to the attackers, he added, “I’ve already shown you the photos of the attackers, didn’t you see? Take a good look at who they are and who they’re with. If they are from Trinamool, then you prove it,” while displaying an image on his mobile phone.

Five individuals-Akash Gayen, Kajal Das, Debashish Dutta, Nirmalya Sengupta, and Tapan Maiti-were arrested in connection with the attacks and produced before the Baruipur court on Sunday.

The incidents form part of several cases of post-poll violence in West Bengal following the BJP’s first-time formation of government in the state and the TMC being limited to 80 seats.

Former West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee met on Sunday with party MP and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee amid ongoing political turmoil linked to the alleged attacks on him and Kalyan Banerjee.

Abhishek Banerjee was reportedly attacked with bricks, stones, and eggs while visiting families affected by post-poll violence in Sonarpur, South 24 Parganas. He sustained injuries to his eye and described the assault as “BJP-sponsored” with an apparent attempt on his life, also alleging inadequate police protection.

TMC leader Kunal Ghosh noted that Abhishek Banerjee is receiving treatment, stating, “the tests are pending, and they will have to be done.”

Mamata Banerjee also met Kalyan Banerjee after he alleged an attack by BJP workers near Chanditala Police Station in Hooghly district while en route to submit a deputation regarding post-poll violence. Kalyan Banerjee described the incident as an “attempt to murder.”

TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee condemned the attack on him in Sonarpur as “political violence and state-sponsored terrorism” by the BJP. He expressed gratitude to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his concern and support following the incident.
