The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that 10 people, including four children, have died in floods across the state in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 41.
"Three people died due to floods each in Sivasagar and Jorhat districts, two in Charaideo district and one each in Dhemaji and Karbi Anglong district. So far, 41 people have lost their lives in the state due to floods," ASDMA stated in its flood report.
Six individuals-three males and three females-remain missing.
The flood situation continues to be severe, affecting over 653,000 people across 11 districts: Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Charaideo, Kamrup, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Dhemaji, Hojai, and Kamrup (M).
Sivasagar district has seen the highest impact with 392,195 people affected, followed by Charaideo at 110,755, Jorhat at 97,690, Golaghat at 25,591, and Dibrugarh at 13,390. Currently, 939 villages within 40 revenue circles remain submerged.
Continuous rainfall has caused rising water levels in the Brahmaputra river and its tributaries. The Disang river at Nanglamuraghat is flowing above the highest flood level.
Additionally, water levels of the Burhidihing river at Chenimari (Khowang), Dikhou river at Sivasagar, Dhansiri (S) river at Numaligarh, and Kushiyara river at SRIBHUMI (FFS) have surpassed danger levels.
More than 313,000 flood-affected people have taken shelter in 487 relief camps and distribution centres established by district authorities.
ASDMA also reported that 138,965 animals have been affected by the floods.
Rescue efforts involving the Indian Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES), Police, Civil Defence, trained volunteers, Indian Air Force, and District Disaster Response Force (DDRF) teams continue. On Wednesday, these teams rescued 8,409 people from flooded areas.
Floodwaters on Wednesday damaged 53 roads, six embankments, and other properties.
