Former judge alleges lawyer assaulted son during dowry death case hearing

Former judge alleges lawyer assaulted son during dowry death case hearing

TheNewsMill 4 days ago

Giribala Singh, a former district judge and accused in an alleged dowry death case, claimed on January 31, 2026, before a Bhopal court that advocate Anurag Srivastava, lawyer to Twisha Sharma, physically assaulted her son, Samarth Singh, at the Jabalpur Court.

The allegation emerged during proceedings after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) produced both Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh in court following the completion of their five-day custodial remand related to the death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma.

Giribala stated that Samarth was assaulted by Anurag Srivastava during court hearings in Jabalpur. Srivastava denied the accusation, stating, “the claim could be verified through CCTV footage installed within the court premises.” He also challenged Samarth Singh to reveal “where he had allegedly been hiding within the Jabalpur Court complex.”

During the hearing, Giribala objected to what she described as a “media trial” concerning the case, stating, “The media trial must cease. Wherever we go, the media follows us; this must be stopped. Our lives are in danger.”

She also expressed concerns about a recent crime scene recreation performed by the CBI, alleging procedural irregularities. Giribala questioned why she was dropped off three houses away from her residence instead of directly at her doorstep, and objected to footage of the exercise being circulated in the media.

The CBI informed the court that it was presently seeking judicial remand for the accused but reserved the right to request further police remand if necessary during the investigation. The agency stated, “At this stage, we are requesting Judicial Remand (JR); however, should the need arise, we will seek Police Remand (PR).”

The case concerns the death of Twisha Sharma, a Noida resident who died in Bhopal on May 12. Her family has alleged that she was subjected to dowry harassment and mental torture by her husband and in-laws. The CBI investigation into the allegations remains ongoing.
